Armalite AR-50A1 50 BMG Single Shot Bolt Action 50A1BGGG

Description

This rifle is the newest incarnation of the wildly popular AR-50 chambered for the powerful 50 BMG cartridge. A single shot bolt action rifle featuring a unique octagonal receiver bedded down into a V-shaped stock. Designed to be an economical answer for the challenges of long range shooting, the AR-50A1 is amazingly accurate and with its massive fluted muzzle brake, it has a very gentle recoil. The AR-50A1 is a highly refined rifle which is a stark and refreshing difference that maintains its superiority over its competition.

Armalite’s great .50 has been refined, with smoother action, attractive new bolt stop, and even greater strength than the original AR-50. The same great accuracy, but now even more beautiful.

I really like this new version of the AR-50A1. The bolt is smooth as butter and Its assembled amazingly well. Minimal moving parts makes this thing almost immune to failure. I also have a Barrett M82A1. Night and day difference. The Barret cool factor is off the charts, BUT.... the Armalite is just solid and better in almost every way. I get 0.5 moa out of the Armalite with 225 gr of WC860 and 650 gr FMJ projectiles. Muzzle blast is a thing with any 50 that you fire unsuppressed. I will say that the Armalite is less severe in both muzzle blast and recoil. It's heavier and has a bigger / better muzzle break. Its just physics. The single shot thing is something that I love and kinda dislike all at the same time. I get the pros and cons and just think the rigidity and smooth action you get out of having to deal with the fact thats its a single-shot rifle is just part of the deal. Besides... I dont think rapidly cycling the bolt for quick follow-up shots is all that realistic. If you want that, go with a 6.5 CM. This is a long range smasher. Its extremely accurate and reliable. Yes, my Barrett is great for quick follow-up shots. I suppose if your trying to stop a charging vehicle and your set up in a position with a rifle to deliver 10 rounds of 50 BMG fast, quick & in a hurry, The Barrett is the ticket. If your wanting to put 650 grains or up to 750 grains of diplomacy on a target 1 mile away, pick the Armalite. Odds are better you will have better success. Once you tear down a Barrett and see all the plastic buffers and parts, and then tear down the AR-50A1 (remove the bolt), you'll step back and see plastic parts that will wear down or fail over time. (I bought extra plastic parts after tear-down #1 of my Barrett). Im honestly thinking of buying another AR-50A1 and doing a custom Cerakote job on it! Two is always better than one! The only thing I would change about the Armalite is the trigger. I dont really care for the thin trigger and it's got some creep. I would like to see a wider trigger shoe and better overall trigger. I would also like to see Armalite offer the big 50 in a magazine fed configuration. I think the fascination of owning a 50 BMG has tapered off alot over the past 10 - 15 years, but once I set up one of my 50's at my local gun range, people stop what they are doing to come have a look and just see these things in action! On another note: put a top tier Vortex on it if you do buy it. If your scope craps out, they will send you a new one! Gotta love Vortex!
